Communicationis the process of encoding meaningful messages and sending themthrough a medium to the receiver. The sender thinks of an idea, encodes then passes the message through a channel to the receiver. This is then decoded by the receiver to give feedback. However, barriers like noise or perceived message often act as a hindrance. Inan organization, communication either formal or informal forms isused to control members’ behavior for motivation, helps to releasetheir emotional expression as well as providing information needed tomake decisions. Using formal channels to transmit messages that arerelated to the professional activities of the members, such as email, memos, and planned speeches and informal channels, to pass personalor social messages should all be embraced at workplaces. Effectivecommunication will also counter the rumors well.

In a workplace, Ihave realized that not only the upward communication method servesbetter but also the lateral and downward communication. Again, myunderstanding of cross-cultural factors is now widened. A culturalpattern in communication affects how messages are encoded and on agreater deal, how they are perceived. The most modern communicationas I have realized can increase misinterpretation. Maybe society hasfailed to adapt well to the new channels of communication. As amanager or an employee, careful consideration before sending a textor instant messages is a must. The same applies to the usage ofE-mails, posters or notices and phone calls. Steps should always betaken to foster face-to-face expression of new ideas.

Leadershipand management vary in the functional terms. Management involves theuse of authority that comes with a designated formal rank to obtaincompliance from members under a given organizational position whileleadership is the ability to influence a group towards theachievement of specific goals. Every organization has an array ofoptions in choosing what type of leadership they should consider. From transformational or authentic to charismatic leadership, leaderswho can match the workplace context and able to fit or change to asituation can help the organization realize its goals. Successfulleaders always have to be directive, supportive, participative, andachievement-oriented. Such leaders as I have learned from the topicalways observe morals thereby avoiding an ethical crisis in thebusiness community. As such, the results of a leader have to go handin hand with the steps through which goals are achieved.

A leader shouldalways feel a degree of trust and respect the employees. To be a goodleader, I have come to note that there are times leaders has someamount of influence over decisions that represent powers ofrewarding, hiring and firing. As part of the ever-developing society,I believe a proper investment in mentoring and training leaders so asto reduce the dependency on the so-called ‘natural leaders.’

Politics andpower

Poweris an intrinsic nature of all human beings. As such, they makecontinued attempts to influence how things are done around them.Individuals possessing the most of the valuable, scarce andnon-substitutable resources become the more powerful and thusincreasing the level of dependency on them. This is where politicscomes in to get more of the power and resources or maybe both.

This topic hasgreatly improved my understanding of sexual harassment in theworkplace. It is now evident that it is an ever-present occurrence inorganizations. The best policy is to train employees throughtraining, in-house seminars as well as ensuring a clear and strongpolicy against sexual harassment in the workplace. If offenders areidentified, proper correctional measures should be taken on them. Asthe best way to increase your power is to have others depend on youmore and need what you are offering. Managers who apply expert andreferent power are far more effective than tactics, such as coercion, and lead to better workplace outcomes. It is very threatening to theorganization if employees engage more in unnecessary politickingwhich would negate the achievement of goals. The right channels likeforming associations or worker unions should be done openly as it isan employee right.

Challengesto be addressed by a successful healthcare administrator

Asthe healthcare administrator, there are some challenges that I willneed to address to be successful in my daily tasks. First, theMedicaid payments are the major problem given that many individuals,in many states, are not insured while others are underinsured. Sincethere is the need to take care of the patients who rely on Medicareand Medicaids, I will look for ways to offset the expenses as wellexpanding the hospital services to address to health challenges ofdifferent people in and outside the state.

Secondly, there is a shortage of healthcare professionals and the hospitalunder my supervision can be one of the victims. I will ensure that Imaintain the available staff in the hospital by paying them salariesabove the industry average compared to other hospitals. Similarly, Iwill ensure that the working environment is favorable, and thenecessary tools are available to make the services of healthcareproviders easier (Top Masters, 2016).

SMARTgoals of healthcare administrators

Thefirst goal is to improve access to health services. Secondly, I willensure that there are quality services offered in the facility tomake it unique compared to other hospitals. Lastly, I will initiateand put into application the innovative treatments that members ofour staff or other health providers elsewhere come up with (Rodrak,2011).

Actionsto fulfill the goals

Toimprove access to the health services, I will ensure that thefacility I work in is readily accessible and available, in case ofemergency services, to avail patients to the hospital. We willprovide the emergency mobile numbers for the hospital to be contactedin cases where our services may be of service. The hospital will getthe ambulance vans ready 24 hours a day to offer the deliveryservices to clients.

Toprovide the quality services to the patients, I will ensure that mymedical staff is competent in the areas they are specialized in. Iwill give them the opportunity to further their studies and attenddifferent medical forums where there will advance their knowledge onhow to attend to some disorders. I will also ensure that the hospitalhas the modern facilities used to offer quality services to patients.

Lastly,I will ensure that the hospital’s innovative treatments are up todate. For this to be done, some of the staff will attend variousseminars organized by doctors and scholars annually to be briefed onthe upcoming developments in nursing. They will later apply thegained knowledge in the hospital setting while attending thepatients.

Leveragingstrengths, communication skills, and leadership style

Leadershipstyles can be leveraged in different ways. Personally, the first wayI can take advantage is by having a clear vision that I willwillingly share with my team. Secondly, I will ensure that theutilization of my natural strengths and gifts is possible togetherwith the ones I have developed over time (Buj, 2012).

Inleveraging my strengths, I will try to initiate teamwork so that wecan work towards achieving a shared vision. Further, I will givethose who fail in their duties time to improve and finally successtowards achieving the common goal of the firm.

Lastly,I will use my communication skills in setting the tone for thehospital while executing the supervisory services. I will also ensurethat these skills are part of the performance appraisals, therebymotivating employees.
