Accordingto a report by Pew Research in 2005, the number of children utilizingthe internet has risen by a significant margin. The report shows that87% of kids aged between 12 and 17 years spend much time online(Todi, 2015). Whether the kids get smarter via consistent usage ofthe web is a challenging aspect. The socializing prospect of theinternet is quite impressive in the current context. It provides aplatform where instant communication happens with ease using toolssuch as chat services, video streaming, emails, and social sites likeTwitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn among others. The ease of making newfriends and catching up with the current ones is smooth. Some sitesalso offer educative lessons related to technology, management, andmedical research. In general, the problem revolves around the impactof the internet on intelligence and social aspects of kids. Whetherthey are smarter or socially stable is a notion that must be proven.

Hypothesis

Thispaper will demonstrate the concept that children are more socializedand smarter due to the internet. It may sound vague, but the internethas shown to be a primary source of information since its inception.Both kids and adults have benefitted immensely by Internet use.Nowadays kids are smarter and socially active than how it used to bein the past due to the ever growing internet services. Therefore,this paper suggests that there exists a positive correlation betweenchildren smartness and internet use. Additionally, a relation existsbetween the internet and the children’s social activeness.

Populationand Sampling Method

Thesampling method will determine the features of a selected group torepresent the entire population. The target group in this researchinvolves young children and teenagers who are active users of theinternet. It will consist of several phases as stated below

  • Defining the target population

  • Identifying a sampling frame, i.e. events or items to be measured

  • Postulating the sampling technique for choosing the events and items within the frame

  • Sample size determination

  • Sampling plan implementation

  • Sampling and data collection

Inthis case, the sampling criterion will group the target populationsinto four. The first set, i.e. Group A will comprise of kids agedbetween 10 and 14 years. The second, i.e. Group B will involve teensaged between 15 and 19. Group C will have individuals aged between 20and 30 years. And the final one Group D will be aged 40 and above.Much effort will be focused on group A and B since it is the targetpopulation for this research. Group C and D are only meant toquantify or oppose the notion that the internet has improved thechildren’s social aspects. The two groups will provide a history ofhow the internet benefited them and whether the lack of it haddetrimental impacts on them (Todi, 2015).

Thisresearch will be based on the probability sampling techniqueprecisely the stratified kind. In this type, the target population ispartitioned according to the factors that can influence the measuredvariables. Data will be collected from the different strata i.e. A,B, C, and D. The table exemplifies how the stratified technique willbe utilized.

The surveys will includeascertaining the most researched materials on the internet. In thatregard, data will be obtained from the most popular search engine andsocial site, primarily Google and Facebook respectively. Interviewswill suit Group D to assess how utilization of the internet benefitedthem during their times (Todi, 2015). The qualitative approaches willinclude document reviews and observation methods. In this technique,experiments will be conducted by monitoring how the different groupsutilize the internet. It will be a comprehensive one to ensure allthe details are captured accurately.

Thecommon questions on the above methods will include:

  • What are the frequently researched topics?

  • How many friends have you made through the social sites?

  • What is your main source of information?

  • When did you start using the internet

Thelevel of measurement for this research will be the ratio. Apart fromit being the most accurate kind, it would allow for comparisonsbetween the selected samples. It also allows for an equivalentdistance between the chosen samples. The research will use the “testto compare means” statistical technique to analyze data. The methodtakes into account the different groups being examined. This methodis most suited for comparison matters. For instance, why are the21st-century children smarter than older adults at the same period?In other words, the knowledge levels of the adults will be tracedback to the teenage period. Theabove research is prospected to confirm that the internet hasincreased the smartness levels of children. Use of the internetimproves the cognitive abilities like memory, abstraction, criticalthinking, logical and spatial problem solving, as well ascomprehension. Through the internet, children are proactive to searchfor information by themselves without necessarily involving theirtutors. The above study will show that adults had a harder timegetting the knowledge during their teenage. Group C results willillustrate the intensive use of internet services to conductbusinesses.

Mostof these individuals began their journeys from an early utilizationof the internet. The research will evidence the notion thatchildren’s critical thinking is improved through the internet. Theonline games assist them to practice and learn abstract mathconcepts. Comparative studies of the same topic suggest that childrenusing the internet comprehend matters much better than those who lackit. As a matter of fact, those accessing the internet tend to getbetter grades than those who lack it.

Despitethe innate risks of getting involved with strangers through theinternet, it is accountable for molding the children regarding theirperception and adaptation to the environment. They develop excellentcommunication skills, behavioral patterns, and thinking levels.Therefore, the internet just like televisions influences the futurebehaviors of children. In general, the research will rightly defendthe hypothesis that children are smarter or more socialized due tothe internet.
