Thus, it is a skill that a person can obtain with practice andit requires a lot of patience to master and develop. When individualsare listening actively, they are often interested in what the speakeris uttering and this can be depicted through non-verbal and vocalmessages like nodding, maintaining eye contact, smile, and agreeingby answering (Hoppe, 2011). Therefore, active listening involvesshowing verbal and non-verbal listening skills in addition tofocusing completely on the speaker.

Activelistening is necessary because it creates a connection between thelistener and speaker. Therefore, this permits for seamlessinteraction and makes certain that the conveyed messages areunderstood and related to properly (Ross, 2014). For instance, when aperson depicts active listening, he or she often pays attention towhat is happening to colleagues. Hence, an active listener can besupportive and appreciative of the troubles of others around them andin the process acquire the respect and trust of colleagues.Additionally, it is necessary to listen actively because one wouldthen comprehend issues and develop better solutions (Ross, 2014).When people are actively listening to their peers, they can obtain abetter understanding of problems and establish appropriate andoptimal solutions. Furthermore, active listening can help a person todiffuse conflict (Rost &amp Wilson, 2013). For instance, if there isa disagreement in the workplace, active listening allows one to beopen to different experiences and perspectives of others beforeoffering a resolution. In most cases, this works because theconflicting parties feel that their issues are taken into account,and as a result, they calm down and engage in resolving the conflict.

Goodlistening skills are essential for effective communication in variousenvironments. Active listening is important since it communicatescommitment, care, and good character of a person, which leads tocareer advancement and effective leadership qualities. Thus, theskill helps respondents not only to understand the speakers’concerns, but also permits them to offer appropriate and efficientfeedback.
